RAFFLE FUNDRAISER
Daily life for 9 year old Tasha Hyde is not full of fairies and ponies. In fact, Tasha has never seen a pony. Tasha Hyde was born with Cerebral Palsy and Optic Nerve Hypopalcia. This means that not only has she never seen the world, her blindness robs her of the confidence to do the things that you and I take for granted.
“Tasha deserves to see the world.” Says Tasha’s mother Renee. “I have always dreamed that one day she would come into my room when she wakes up and jump on the bed and give me a kiss and cuddle. Her blindness means that she does not have the confidence to walk or talk and without treatment, that may never happen.”
The good news is that the technology now exists to fix Tasha’s condition, however Doctors in Australia have not been able to operate as the technology has not yet reached our shores.
In China however, Doctors have performed the procedure and cured blindness in patients with the same condition. The course of treatment utilises umbilical cord stem cells to encourage the growth of a patients own regenerative cells. We then found out that these treatments not only offer the hope and gift of sight but can benefit patients with cerebal palsy. Tasha has been given a 92% chance the procedure will work. Friends and family of local Strathpine girl Tasha Hyde can’t wait to witness their little angel being able to see for the first time in her life. Even more so 9 year old Tasha we are sure can’t wait to see them face to face for the first time. “She is an incredibly brave and optimistic little girl” says Tasha’s mum Renee “she has been through so much in her short life, the thought that through the wonders of technology, the future could mean a normal life for her just blows my mind”.
The hope of a cure for their little girl is beyond her family’s wildest dreams. “It’s a heart-wrenching situation to be in” describes Tasha’s Dad Tony “imagine knowing that within reach is the opportunity to totally transform your daughter’s life but it’s out of reach financially.”
The family has raised $48,000 so far but still needs the support of the public to raise the remaining $11,000 required to fund Tasha’s trip to China to have her procedure. The family hopes with the sale of the raffle tickets that this can be possible as they are due to leave on the 24 August 2010.
