Hi! My name is Tasha… I am a fun loving eleven year old girl who loves spending time on the swings, jumping around on my trampoline swimming on hot summer days and giggling with my family. But life isn’t as easy for me as it is for other eleven year old girls, I’ve faced a lot of complications and every day is a challenge. This is my story. When I was born I had many medical complications, no child or family should have to face these, but my family and I survived, we carry on with the hope, with the dream that one day life will be made easier, each thing that I am able to over come will not only impact my life, but the lives of those around me. I arrived in this world six weeks prematurely, my poor mum experienced complications during my birth and with my lungs not properly formed there was the need for a special ventilator which meant we were separated and I was taken to a different hospital away from my family. At three weeks old I had to have my bowel resectioned, then rejoined at six weeks. Unfortunately after this I developed blood clots which meant my mummy had to give me clexane injections twice a day to help prevent more blood clots forming. I got Hypoglycaemia (which I outgrew by seven months) and after six months in hospital the doctors told my family I had Optic Nerve Hypoplasia (ONH), Cerebral Palsy and Severe Developmental Delays. Two weeks later I was able to go home. Mummy and Daddy were quite upset for some time, but I did not know life could be any different. I was always so happy, so they came to realise that with everything I had been through, there was no one more special than ME and if I could be a happy little girl, then my Mummy and Daddy needed to be as happy and strong as they could be for me. Due to my conditions I am unable to do a lot of things, I am unable to communication in sentences, I only know a few words, but these I use so well :-) I try my best to communicate with my family but I am not always successful. I cannot walk on my own without support, but do my best to get from one place to another. The main thing that is holding me back is my eye sight. The doctors in Australia explained that there was no chance I would ever be able to see, but my parents never lost the hope of one day giving me the ultimate gift of sight. This was when Tasha’s Hope for Sight began. One day, while Mummy was watching the news, she came across a story about children going to china to receive treatment for ONH and CP which is offered at Beike Biotech China founded by the University of Beijing, China. This course of treatment utilises umbilical cord stem cells to encourage the growth of a patient’s own regenerative cells. We did what we could to raise the money we needed to get to China, and in August 2010 we headed off. I had 8 doses of stem cells and intense therapy. We experienced success!!! I now have Light Perception in my left eye and can tell day from night. Before I went to China I was unable to walk very well, even with assistance, now however I’m a pro (with personal assistants) and can even do stairs with a helping hand. So please help my family; with my growth comes their growth. We are one and the same. Our family's goal is for Tasha to see her family and especially her mother (the one who has nurtured her through her life). Even if Tasha could see shadows then this whole experience will be worth it. We have been told that for the best results the second treatment needs to be completed before Tasha turns 12 for maximum results, this second treatment could have a major impact on our goal for Tasha. To get our family over to China and receive this treatment we will require $40,000 AUD (for treatment and travel expenses, food and living costs). As a struggling family we are unable to fund this for Tasha on a single wage and we really need to rely on the generosity of the public for support and funding. Every cent donated will bring us one step closer to giving us the opportunity to give our beautiful girl the gift of sight and a better life. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to read our story and learn of the difficulties we have faced so far and hope that Tasha's future will be one that is bright and beautiful. donations can be made to: Or send a cheque to: Also The Lawnton Scout Group has made it so any donation that come in. we can give Tax Deductible Receipts to Cash Donations over $2.00 so if anyone wanting a receipt should please email me at tashashopeforsight@yahoo.com.au or call me on 0430 821 261 Thank you to IGA Strathpine for their Very kind Support Website design and updates kindly donated by Deborah Cottam (DEBSWEBZ) and Danielle Rack Website hosting kindly dontated by Brisbane Hosting Click here for a list of Thank You's!
